Cost of Living and Savings

Posted in Germany forum

Hi, I got an internship opportunity in Berlin,Germany and they are willing to pay me 1000 Euro/Per month as a stipend. Is this sufficient amount to live as a bachelor in Berlin ? if yes then how much it will cost for me per month (Rent,Food,Utilities,Transport etc) and how much euros i can save every month?

Guten Tag!

If you meant room in a shared flat: Yes, that is common (and called "Wohngemeinschaft" or WG). The price is, as I mentioned above, from EUR300/month if you rent unfurnished and for longer periods.
If you meant several people sharing a room: That is incompatible with the German sense of privacy and therefore unheard of.

How much you need very much depends on your lifestyle and spending choices.
You can check numbeo.com for a first idea.
In general, EUR600/month is considered sufficient for daily expenses (excluding accommodation) if you live a simple life.
A normal (long-term, unfurnished) rented room can be had for EUR300/month, but if you are coming for a short time (a few months only) you are likely to pay double to triple of that for a furnished and serviced apartment - and then your 1000EUR will not be enough.
In any case you will not be able to save much or anything. EUR1000/month is below the official poverty line for a single person.
